Special Lesson- Riff Variations: An infinite supply of new riffs... Study these three variations on riffs from the disc to see how you can change riffs into your own! Q and A: Question: I would like to start with the easier riffs. Which ones do you suggest? Answer: These are some of the easier riffs on Metal Riffology: 14,15, 21, 26, 34, 35, 71, 74, 90, 94, 97 Question: How do you pick the galloping rhythm in Riff One? Answer: Be sure to pick downward on the start of each beat, then make a silent upstroke to prepare for the second half of the beat. Each set of notes in the first bar is picked "down, down-up". Question: On Riff Twenty, are you palm muting the pull-offs on the D string? If not, is there a trick to shutting down the D string so it doesn't ring when I go back to the G string? Answer: Yes, use palm muting to articulate that phrase. It's a little tricky, so start slowly. Question: What is the best way to use the CD-ROM? Answer: Of course, you could just skip through the riffs and start with the ones you like best. That is probably what you will do naturally when you first get the CD! After you get a taste of the riffs and the layout, I suggest that you work through the lessons and the associated sample riffs. Then when you study the rest of the riffs you will understand the notes about inversions, modal mixture and other concepts. Corrections:
For years I was certain that there was not a single error on the entire
disc, but now I know of two. |
